igoogle, nay google

First of all apologies for any spelling or strange mistakes.  I'm using the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software and it is still learning my Yorkshire accent.

Anyway, I did the whole setting up an iGoogle account yesterday.  Quite interesting I'd never done it before and I quite like the way you can add and change round any of the gadgets, you could spend hours making it just so :-)
My iGoogle page
Don't think I would use it normally though.  I already have my favourites bar and my bookmarks and would rather go to a full webpage rather than see a snippet in amongst lots of others.  Plus I don't like the idea that Google knows what sort of things you want to look at..... Big Brother and all that, although I'm sure it's not like that at all.  There are so many other ways to keep up-to-date and to keep all your favourite things together that I won't be using this.

I understand why people want to personalise their web experiences and having your own Google homepage makes you feel special, like part of the Google club. maybe I just don't use the web enough *shock horror* to utilise all the different kinds of gadgets available.

Good to know wha tis out there though and it was really easy to set-up...I'd be interested to hear why other people use it/like it/have adopted it as their homepage etc.

  1. Interesting post and you're right you can spend ages fiddling around with gadgets and designs.
Have you looked at rss feeds Thing? I know you're already aware of and are using them already but interesting to see what you think of google reader and if you find it too much google-taking-over-the-world.
I don't use my igoogle page as much as I used to, but that's because I'm almost permanently logged on with our team admin google account.
